Japan Alaka‘i

Tomoko Sato

Tomoko Sato lives in Tokyo. She discovered hula in 1996 and was deeply impressed when she saw the kūpuna dance in HNMOP’s concert. She joined the Hālau when they opened in Japan and has been loving hula and her new hula family ever since. Tomoko is amazed how dancing hula allows her to expresses what she feels and thinks. She is amazed that she can affect people and bring them happiness through this dance. She shares, “I canʻt imagine my life without hula—I live peacefully everyday because of it. Being a part of HNMOP has taught me the meaning of aloha—to appreciate and be kind to one another. I have learned to cherish my relationships with family and friends.”
