Japan Alaka‘i
Yoshihiro Tsutsui
Yoshihiro Tsutsui, from Tokyo, is currently a flight attendant. Until he watched the Merrie Monarch Hula Competition and saw the men dance kahiko, he had thought hula was only graceful and soft, mainly for women. Yoshihiro was so impressed with the menʻs strength and power as they performed he decided to join the Hālau in 2008.
Hula has taught Yoshi how to live life to the fullest and to be in the moment when dancing. He loves being with his hula brothers, especially when they are dancing as one. Yoshiʻs favorite song to dance to is “Ko Maʻi” and he shares that “these past 5 years have been joyous ones. I encourage others to join HNMOP to bring joy into their lives.”
