It was on March 24th 1986, at a place called Paki Park, with a group of 12 kūpuna that the seed of what was to become Hālau Nā Mamo O Pu‘uanahulu was planted…
Aloha, my name is William Kahakuleilehua Haunu‘u “Sonny” Ching—Kumu Hula of Hālau Nā Mamo O Pu‘uanahulu… For the past 20 years, it has not been often that I have wanted or allowed people to see the inner workings of our hālau hula or hula school, because doing so also reveals what is inside of me. For one to truly know and appreciate what it is we do, one needs to come and be a part of it, to live this life we call hula. For only then can one truly understand and learn what it is that drives us, our passion for our culture, our values and traditions through this art form called the hula. Only then can one understand why we have chosen to live this life of hula, for it is our life. We invite you to glimpse a few hours of memories, dreams and aspirations for the future…
